Terms of Use

These Terms govern your use of The Spot mobile application and related services operated in connection with app.jointhespot.com. This page is an engineering draft pending counsel review.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use The Spot. By affirming age during onboarding, you represent that you meet this requirement. The Spot does not independently verify identity or age.

2. The service

The Spot lets adults browse participating venues (“Spots”), manually check in after location validation, see visible people at the same Spot, send a Wave to request a connection, and chat privately only after a Wave is accepted. Recently Seen may show people whose valid check-ins overlapped with yours (“cross paths”). Features may change as we improve the product.

3. Your account

Keep your login credentials secure. You are responsible for activity on your account. Provide accurate profile information. You may delete your account in the app.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Harass, threaten, stalk, or exploit other users
• Share others’ private messages, photos, or location without consent
• Impersonate others or misrepresent your presence at a Spot
• Spam, scrape, reverse engineer, or disrupt the service
• Use the app for illegal activity

We may suspend or ban accounts that violate these Terms, Community Guidelines, or applicable law.

5. Location and presence

Check-in uses foreground location only when you choose I’m Here. We do not continuously track background location. A live or recent-activity indicator means someone used the app recently; it does not prove they are physically next to you.

6. Purchases

Premium subscriptions and Wave packs are sold through Apple or Google and processed via our payments partner. Store terms apply to billing, renewal, and refunds. Pending purchases do not grant access until confirmed by our servers.

7. Disclaimers

The Spot is provided “as is.” We do not guarantee that any particular person will be at a Spot, accept a Wave, or be who they claim to be. Meetups and interactions outside the app are at your own risk. Use Safety Tips and reporting tools.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Spot and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those places, liability is limited to the maximum extent allowed.

9. Changes

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be reflected by a new version identifier. Continued use after the effective date of a new version constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
