Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what The Spot collects and how it is used. It is an engineering draft aligned with product behavior; have counsel review before store submission.

1. Who we are

The Spot is the social check-in app associated with app.jointhespot.com. Contact: support@jointhespot.com

2. Data we process

• Account: email and authentication identifiers
• Profile: display name, gender, city, bio, status, and optional photos
• Location: foreground precise location only when you check in; coordinates are used to validate proximity and are not shown to other users
• Check-ins: venue presence used for who’s-here lists and crossed-path history (retained 30 days while that feature is enabled)
• Activity: recent app activity for the green “recently active” indicator (short window)
• Waves, balances, messages: connection requests, Wave credits, and private chat after acceptance
• Reports: safety reports and related evidence for moderation
• Purchases: entitlement and Wave-credit records via our payments partner
• Push token: device token for notifications you enable
• Venue suggestions: places you propose for review

3. How we use data

We use this information to:

• Operate check-in, discovery, Waves, chat, and Recently Seen
• Enforce Invisible Mode, blocks, bans, and Community Guidelines
• Process purchases and restore entitlements
• Send notifications you opt into
• Improve safety and reliability of the service

4. What others can see

Visible profile fields and your current Spot (when you are checked in and not invisible) may be shown to other eligible users. Exact GPS coordinates are never exposed to other users. Private messages stay between conversation members. Crossed-path history is limited to participants in an overlap and retained for 30 days under current product settings.

5. What we do not do

The Spot does not continuously track background location. We do not claim government ID or biometric age verification. We do not sell your personal information as a business model described here.

6. Sharing

We use service providers necessary to run the product (for example hosting, authentication, push delivery, and in-app purchases). We may disclose information if required by law or to protect users and the service. Administrators may access reports and related account data for moderation.

7. Retention

Crossed-path overlap history is retained for 30 days while enabled. Other retention periods (including report evidence) require legal approval and may be updated in a later policy version. When you delete your account, we process deletion according to the in-app flow and applicable law.

8. Your choices

• Invisible Mode and notification settings in the app
• Block and report tools
• Optional profile photos
• Account deletion from Profile → Delete Account

9. Children

The Spot is for adults 18+. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

10. Changes

We may update this Policy and publish a new version identifier. Material changes will be reflected in the current published version linked from the app.
